Time by Luxmuralis opens at Durham Cathedral tonight, Wednesday 7 October, as the acclaimed sound and light experience returns for its fifth year, transforming the cathedral with projections inspired by the mysteries of time.

Running each evening until Sunday 11 October, the installation transforms the cathedral's ancient architecture with stunning projections inspired by time, clocks, invention and human discovery.
Created by artistic collaboration Luxmuralis, the installation invites visitors to explore the passage of time through light, colour and sound. Projections fill the cathedral's columns, ceilings and stonework with moving images inspired by the theme of time, revealing familiar spaces in unexpected ways.
Visitors at the preview evening described the experience as "stunning", "immersive" and "beautiful", commenting on how the projections transformed familiar cathedral spaces.
Andrew Usher, Chief Officer: Visitor Experience and Enterprise at Durham Cathedral, said:
"We're delighted to welcome Luxmuralis back to Durham Cathedral for its fifth year. Time explores one thing that connects all of us: the passage of time.
Visitors will see the cathedral filled with light, colour and music as stories of history, innovation and discovery come to life around them.
Durham Cathedral has stood at the heart of the region for almost 1,000 years, and it's always exciting to see people experience these familiar spaces in a completely different way. We had a fantastic response from visitors at the preview evening and we're looking forward to welcoming many more people over the coming days."
The installation combines striking visual projections with an original soundtrack, creating moments of wonder, reflection and exploration throughout the cathedral. Visitors will also have the opportunity to take away a prayer card and light a candle during their visit.
Luxmuralis has created acclaimed sound and light experiences in some of the country's most significant historic and sacred spaces. Their work blends art, storytelling and architecture to create memorable experiences that celebrate the unique character of each venue.
Time by Luxmuralis is suitable for all ages and takes place at Durham Cathedral from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 11 October.
Tickets remain available throughout the run, with entry by timed ticket.
