AboutAt Radisson Hotel Blu turn right passing Crook Hall to the left, Crook Hall is one of Durham 's hidden gems, a 14th century manor house.
Continue to the right at Sewage works following the official NCN14 route on road until reaching Frankland Farm.
Now follow traffic free cycle route signposted to Brasside, bypassing Frankland Lane. You will reach HMP Frankland, a category A Prison opened in 1982.
After crossing Finchale Road continue for 1 mile to reach Finchale Priory, the surface at this point will be unimproved bridleway (likely to be rough going/muddy).
Finchale Priory holds the very extensive remains of a 13th century priory, later serving as a holiday retreat for the monks of Durham Cathedral.
Beautiful scenery of the River Wear to be enjoyed here. Return to Durham City following same route.
