The Assembly Rooms Theatre is an historic, 175-seat proscenium-arch theatre located at the heart of Durham City.
Situated on North Bailey in the most historic part of Durham, within sight of Durham Cathedral, entering the Assembly Rooms Theatre is like stepping into another world. A 175 seat proscenium arch, our theatre is filled with history and tradition, updated with brand new modern spaces. Used for Durham Univeristy productions, professional productions, touring theatre and conferences – the Assembly Rooms Theatre welcomes all.
Opening Hours and Booking Information
For booking enquiries, please feel free to email theatre.manager@durham.ac.uk or come along to the box office in person.
The Box Office and Bar open 60 minutes before shows are due to start, and tickets and refreshments are available to purchase.
Group perks and benefits are often available for specific shows, so please get in touch if you are interested in arranging a group visit. Concession prices and discounts for Durham Student Theatre members are also available for the majority of performances, and can be applied to online purchases, or tickets bought in person at the box office. For ticket exchanges or refunds, as well as more information on our performances (including age restrictions or content guidance) please contact the Theatre Manager.
Access
The Assembly Rooms Theatre aims to ensure their productions are accessible to all, however, with the historic nature of the theatre building it is adviseable to contact the Theatre Manager to ensure your visits runs as smoothly as possible. The theatre has two wheelchair accessible seats, a fixed induction loop throughout, and some longer runs will have captioned performances. Guide dogs are welcome in all parts of the theatre.
