Neighborhood
Nestled in the serene and picturesque landscape of North East England, Durham is a city that effortlessly blends ancient heritage with modern comforts. Mayford Apartment, in this historic locale, offers an ideal escape for those seeking a mix of cultural enrichment, natural beauty, and tranquil relaxation.

Durham is renowned for its UNESCO World Heritage Site, Durham Cathedral, a stunning example of Norman architecture that has stood the test of time. Just a short walk away, you’ll find the equally impressive Durham Castle, a fortress with over 1,000 years of history. The winding cobbled streets surrounding these landmarks are filled with quaint shops, cosy cafes, and traditional pubs, where you can enjoy a leisurely day exploring the city’s rich past.

Durham boasts a vibrant cultural scene with year-round events and festivals, including the famous Durham Miners' Gala and the Lumiere Festival, a spectacular light show that transforms the city into a glowing wonderland. The city is also home to an array of museums, art galleries, and theaters, ensuring that there is always something interesting to see and do.

The lush, rolling hills of the Durham Dales and the nearby North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty provide endless opportunities for outdoor adventures. Whether you prefer a gentle stroll along the River Wear, a hike through scenic trails, or a day trip to the stunning High Force waterfall, the natural beauty of the area is sure to captivate you.

Getting Around
Durham’s excellent road and rail connections make it an ideal base for exploring the wider region, with Newcastle upon Tyne, the stunning Northumberland coastline, and the Lake District all within easy reach.

Durham Train Station also has regular direct services operating to Edinburgh, Liverpool, London, Bristol and Plymouth.

Durham has bus routes operating to locations across the North East including Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland, Consett, Darlington, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Houghton-le-Spring, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Seaham, South Shields, Stanhope, Stanley and Sunderland.

Both Newcastle & Teesside International Airports are within 30 miles of Durham.
