About

Situated in Sacriston, we’re a father-daughter roasting duo with a passion for coffee and a love for the North East.

With a range of beans from around the world, we aim to showcase the diversity of flavour within the speciality coffee industry and hope to encourage people to connect to our wonderful region through our ethically sourced coffee.

To us, coffee roasting is a very personal undertaking; it is more than simply roasting great coffee, but also about building sustainable relationships and fusing exciting flavour profiles with a celebration of heritage and community.

Our green beans are hand-roasted in small batches on our Air-Motion-Roasters to ensure optimal freshness, and we are excited to be the UK representatives of this cutting-edge technology. The Air-Roasting process is a highly sophisticated and interactive roasting experience which involves coffee beans being suspended and roasted on a bed of hot air. It’s a gentler method of roasting that results in an exceptionally flavoursome, intensely aromatic, and clean cup of coffee.

Here at Durham Coffee, we are also committed to only roasting speciality graded coffee. Speciality Coffee is quality graded coffee that is bought and sold ethically and with fair prices on a quality level between producers, exporters, and roasters. The coffee we import is traceable, regularly assessed and producers are paid a premium for their quality over and above the market price. This helps them build more sustainable businesses with a focus on quality, sustainability, and community support.

Alongside our hand roasted speciality coffee, we also provide barista training, coffee equipment and bespoke coffee profiles for businesses. Team building workshops and coffee courses such as our ‘Starting Your Coffee Shop’ or ‘Air-Motion Roasting 101’ are also part of our offering.

We love sharing our enthusiasm and knowledge and from bean to cup, the relationships we build along the way are very important to us; so please do give us a call or stop by our roastery in Sacriston if you have any questions or just fancy a nosy and a fresh brew – we’re always happy to talk coffee and roasting with fellow enthusiasts!
