Nes Cottage self-catering at Witton Gilbert County Durham

About

This stunning, all ground-floor, newly renovated barn conversion is situated in the quiet village of Witton Gilbert, just over three miles from the city of Durham, which is easily accessible from the property.

Nes Cottage, named after the owner's mother’s Norwegian hometown, follows a stunning Scandinavian theme, offering unique and contemporary accommodation for a family or group of up to six wanting to explore the city of Durham and nearby North Pennines AONB.

The driveway leads to a private parking area; park up and head down the paved path to the front door, where you'll be met with a lovely entrance hall with coat hooks for hanging your belongings.

You will notice the contemporary, Norwegian style of this property, along with underfloor heating providing a cosy, homely feel to the space as you make your way towards the open-plan living area, passing a handy cupboard containing a washer/dryer, ironing board etc., should you require them.

The high spec kitchen has tasteful blue cupboards, a Range cooker with double oven, a convenient dishwasher and an array of other mod cons to take care of all of your culinary needs.

The stylish dining area has seating for six, beneath a fantastic chandelier-style light, encased in a quirky wooden frame, while the sitting room has a sofa and loveseat to relax on while watching the built in smart TV, with a top-of-the-range Chilli Penguin woodburning stove crackling in the distance and bi-fold doors that open up onto the patio area of the garden and transforms the space, filling it with natural light.

The property has three bedrooms; a master double with an en-suite shower room, a further double and a twin, each with smart TVs, storage space, beautiful feature wallpaper, quirky light fixtures and views onto the garden.

The high-quality family bathroom suite has beautiful marbled tiling and a choice of bath and large walk-in shower to prepare you for each day.

Outside is a pretty front garden with a lawn, patio area with stylish furniture and a barbecue, ideal for enjoying a sunny day dining alfresco and makes a perfect relaxing end to a day of exploring your surroundings.

This property is well-placed for discovering Durham, just off the A691, which provides simple access directly into the city, where you will find an 11th century castle, Norman cathedral, a stunning botanic garden, the 13th century manor house and picturesque gardens of Crook Hall, riverside walks beside the River Wear, along with a selection of shops, pubs, restaurants, cafés, tearooms and bars in this thriving university city.

The peaceful village of Witton Gilbert provides a convenience store, two pubs, one of which serves excellent food and a takeaway, while the disused railway forms part of the National Cycle Trail Route 14.

Explore the North Pennines AONB and UNESCO Global Geopark on foot or bicycle and discover varied landscapes of heather moorland, rivers, meadows, deep dales and charming stone-built villages, plus attractions such as 14th century Raby Castle, Beamish Museum, Hamsterley and Whinfell forests, Egglestone Abbey, Talkin Tarn Country Park & Lake and the National Trust's Acorn Bank.

The bustling city of Newcastle is a short drive away, or you can take the train from Durham station, with plentiful shopping, dining out and nightlife opportunities, as well as the iconic Angel of the North statue, Life Science Centre and contemporary Gateshead Millennium Bridge, a pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the River Tyne.

Well-placed for discovering cities and countryside, Nes Cottage is a stunning luxury base for your next holiday to County Durham.
