About
This summer, Ramble Worldwide, the original walking holiday specialist with a charitable ethos, is offering a programme of free guided walks across England and Scotland to celebrate its 80th birthday.
Join us on this free guided sample walk to experience the camaraderie and sense of adventure that thousands of our guests have enjoyed before, and help us celebrate the last 80 years as we step into our next adventure.
Starting from the Delta Hotels Durham Royal County, this circular walk heads down to the River Wear before turning upstream, following a classic riverside path with the water on your left. Along the way, there are beautiful views of Durham Cathedral and the surrounding bridges as you make your way towards Framwellgate Bridge.
After crossing the river, the route leads into Aykley Wood Nature Reserve, where quieter woodland trails offer a peaceful change of pace. You’ll then loop back towards the city, rejoining the river on the opposite bank and enjoying fresh views of the cathedral as you head downstream.
Crossing back at Elvet Bridge, the walk returns to the hotel, creating an easy-to-moderate circular route of around 6.5 km that blends riverside scenery, historic landmarks, and tranquil woodland.
To ensure a smooth pace and the best experience for all participants, we kindly ask that our hikes remain pet-free and child-free. This helps us keep the group moving comfortably and ensures everyone can fully enjoy the adventure. Thank you for your understanding.
By participating in this sample hike, all participants acknowledge that they are responsible for their own safety, well-being, and personal belongings, and agree to assume all risks associated with outdoor activities. Ramble Worldwide is not liable for any injuries, accidents, or damages incurred during the event.
