Learn how non-native plants invade our riverbanks

Find us in Durham University Botanic Garden between 10 am-12.30 am. Understand how Giant Hogweed, Japanese Knotweed and Himalayan Balsam are invading our river banks, by learning about wind dispersal, ballistic seed dispersal and rhizomes. Practice how to Check, Clean and Dry your footwear. This activity is open to all ages and abilities. Join us for the full session or just drop in as part of a visit to the Botanic Garden.

At 12.30 pm we will meet outside the Botanic Gardens to visit Blaids Wood and participate in a Balsam Bash. This activity is open to all ages and abilities, however a good level of fitness is needed to access the site and pull the Himalayan Balsam. You do not need to visit the Botanic Garden to participate in this part of the event.
