Summer Breaks

From breathtaking landscapes and spectacular coastline, to world-famous attractions and a vibrant city at its heart. Enjoy some time out in Durham this summer and take home amazing memories.

With longer days and lighter nights to enjoy, things are certainly starting to heat up in Durham. With a packed programme of events and activities to enjoy throughout the summer.

Kynren - An Epic Tale of England - the spectacular live-action show will return to Bishop Auckland with incredible performances, and Seaham Food Festival will once again transform the harbour town into a foodie seaside haven. Plus the Emirates Riverside will host an action-packed summer of cricketing action alongside amazing live music events. #savethedate for loads of amazing summertime events.

Delve into the county's fascinating heritage at attractions including the award-winning Beamish Museum. Head to Barnard Castle and experience The Bowes Museum’s fascinating collections. Or take in the breathtaking views from Durham Cathedral’s Central Tower.

With pleasant temperatures throughout the summer, it's the perfect time to explore the county. It's the ideal getaway for active outdoor adventures.

Escape to a world of peace and tranquility in the Durham Dales and North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where you'll find hidden gems around every corner, or get active with walking and cycling routes galore - including Hamsterley Forest. And don't miss the chance to visit High Force, one of England's most impressive waterfalls.

All along the Durham Coast you'll find beautiful family-friendly (and dog-friendly) beaches to explore including Seaham, Crimdon and Blackhall Rocks. Cool down with an ice cream or try your hand at watersports at Seaham Harbour Marina or simply enjoy the dramatic views out across the North Sea. On the coast you'll also find the region's biggest outlet shopping centre - Dalton Park.

There is something for everyone in Durham. And summer is the perfect time to explore it for yourself.
