About

Wheatley Hill Heritage Centre is small building of architectural beauty. The Museum, originally the Chapel Of Rest, houses a permanent exhibition of an East Durham colliery home, set in 1919, with a temporary exhibition every 6 months.

The Chapel of Rest was made possible by the hard work on behalf of the East Durham mining communities of Peter Lee who is buried in our cemetery. We celebrate the life and times of Peter Lee in the Heritage Centre.
