About

The Solan Connor Fawcett Family Cancer Trust knows how a cancer diagnosis can change everything.

Team Solan was established in 2015 to help improve the quality of life of children and adults who have been affected by a cancer diagnosis or bereavement. We are based in County Durham and provide bespoke help and support for those whose lives have been turned upside down by a cancer diagnosis.

No matter what your cancer journey looks like
We provide bespoke help and support for our Warriors* and their families including; emotional, physical, practical or financial needs.

We have a boutique and furniture store in Spennymoor and also provide counselling services, complimentary therapies, a beauty and wig room service and drop in centre at our Support Hub.

How We Began
In 2015, Founder, Mark Solan, signed up for a white collar boxing event to raise money for Cancer Research UK in memory of his Mother and Grandmother who both sadly lost their battle with cancer.

Mark had recently turned 42 (the same age his Mother was diagnosed terminally ill with cancer) and set himself a fundraising target of £1,000. The event ended up raising a huge £21,315 for Cancer Research UK.

Excited and inspired by his ability to raise such an incredible amount of money, Mark wanted to support more individuals and families affected by cancer in the North East.

The Solan Connor Fawcett Family Cancer Trust was launched in 2015 to help those touched by cancer.

These services help with the stress, worry and any other issues that someone might experience during their cancer journey.

Everyone’s journey is unique, and we try to create a sense of calm and normality at a time when people are also dealing with the obstacles of day-to-day life.

*Warrior is a term often used throughout Team Solan, and refers to the individuals who have been supported by Team Solan following a cancer diagnosis or bereavement.

Support
We supported 1000’s of people since Team Solan was founded in 2015.

Referrals
Over the past 10 years, we have received hundreds of referrals from NHS, MacMillan, GP’s, District Nurses & individuals.

Beginnings
We began in Spennymoor and we’re now in towns and villages in Northumberland, Cumbria & North Yorkshire.

Pandemic
During the global pandemic, we provided over 1000 care packages to hundreds of vulnerable families.
