About

May is Local History Month.

'Lost & Found: The McLaren Diaries of Thorpe Thewles'

Film screening followed by Q&A with Thorpe Thewles History Group.

Sedgefield Library

Thursday 21st May 2:00pm.

In 2010, Brian Powdrell purchased a set of three neatly handwritten antique diaries from a car boot sale in Hull. The diaries were written by a teenage boy, David McLaren, who lived at Manor Farm, Thorpe Thewles.

David's diaries present a vivid account of a young man's daily life in southeast County Durham, along with accounts of both local, regional and international events of interest. Brian gifted the Diaries to Thorpe Thewles History Group, who selected Lonely Tower Film & Media to produce a documentary film about their contents of the diary.

'Lost and Found' shows 76 of what they considered to be some of the most interesting entries from David's diaries and which best portrayed his character and the general times and social framework in which he lived.
