A talk exploring the societal norms that governed women's lives in Victorian England, through the lens of a County Durham girl who refused to conform to them. 

Christiana Whitfield, the speaker's great-grand aunt, was born into a respectable farming family but flouted convention repeatedly. 

Despite her "bad" behaviour, Christiana managed to carve out a properous existence for herself and her family, against all odds. 

Joanna will have copies of her book available for purchase and signing (£10 cash or card).
