About

Transport yourself to the golden age of cinema with a nostalgic afternoon in our beautifully restored 1950s Grand Cinema. The Grand cinema, from Ryhope, in Sunderland, has been recreated and brought to life, in our 1950s Town.

Hocus Pocus – A teenage boy named Max and his little sister move to Salem, where he struggles to fit in before awakening a trio of diabolical witches that were executed in the 17th century.
Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd November 2025 - 2pm

Arthur Christmas - Santa’s clumsy son Arthur sets out on a mission with Grandsanta to give out a misplaced present to a young girl in less than two hours on Christmas Day.
Saturday 29th November 2025 - 2pm

Miracle on 34th Street (1947) - After a divorced New York mother hires a nice old man to play Santa Claus at Macy’s, she is startled by his claim to be the genuine article. When his sanity is questioned, a lawyer defends him in court by arguing that he’s not mistaken.
Sunday 30th November 2025 - 2pm

Elf - Raised as an oversized elf, Buddy travels from the North Pole to New York City to meet his biological father, Walter Hobbs, who doesn’t know he exists and is in desperate need of some Christmas spirit.
Saturday 6th December 2025 - 2pm

The Holly and the Ivy - An English clergyman’s neglect of his grown children, in his zeal to tend to his parishioners, comes to the surface at a Christmas family gathering.
Sunday 7th December 2025 - 2pm

The Muppet Christmas Carol - The Muppets put their spin on the tale of an elder, Christmas-hating miser who is visited by spirits who foretell his future and share secrets from his past and present, which helps change his view on life.
Saturday 13th December 2025 - 2pm

White Christmas - A successful song-and-dance team become romantically involved with a sister act and team up to save the failing Vermont inn of their former commanding general.
Sunday 14th and 21st December 2025 - 1.45pm

How the Grinch Stole Christmas - On the outskirts of Whoville lives a green, revenge-seeking Grinch who plans to ruin Christmas for all of the citizens of the town.
Saturday 20th December 2025 - 1.45pm

Tickets for Grand Cinema Events must be pre-booked online (subject to availability) and will not be available to buy at the museum. You don’t need to pay museum admission to attend a cinema event, you just need to purchase cinema tickets. You will be able to enter the museum up to an hour before the showing time. Beamish Unlimited Passes and Friends of Beamish memberships are not valid for this event. Please show your Grand Cinema Ticket at the Entrance.

Please note that the cinema cannot accommodate buggies or pushchairs, and you will be asked to leave these outside the building at your own risk.
