Durham University Orchestral Society: Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony.

In celebration of 60 years of DUOS, the concert will open with Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suite No. 1, which featured in the Orchestral Society's first ever performance. This suite of incidental music was written to accompany Alphonse Daudet’s play of the same name, featuringtypically French folk influence.

Following this is an exciting new piece composed by one of the Durham University Orchestral Society's players, Maxwell Richards-Clarke: A Hero’s Tale – Dreams Come True.

To conclude the concert is Tchaikovsky’s monumental 5th Symphony. Although Tchaikovsky said the piece was not programmatic, it has been speculated that the work represents an encounter with fate itself.
