About
Calling all young scientists! Locomotion is the next stop for the annual festival to celebrate science.
Get inspired by science this October half-term! Durham University is partnering with Locomotion to host an exciting two-day festival. Join us for live demonstrations, hands-on experiments and creative activities for the whole family.
We are expecting this to be a busy event, so we are asking visitors to pre-book free, timed admission slots. This event will be taking place in Main Hall—please note that only assistance dogs are permitted inside museum buildings.
Festival highlights
Exploring Biosciences: From something as large as a Hippo to the microscopic. Can you identify an animal from the size and shape of its skull? Use augmented reality T-shirts to see inside your body and learn about your tissues and organs. Look at those tissues down the microscope and see how they all are made of tiny cells.
Mimi’s Tiny Adventure: Meet Mimi, a curious girl with big questions. When her granny accidentally shrinks herself to microscopic size, it’s up to Mimi and her friends to uncover the mysteries of tiny physics and find a way to save her! Experience this brand-new story brought to life with interactive activities.
Light Entertainment: Light and atoms are everywhere, but there’s more than meets the eye! Explore the physics behind the aurora, make your own colour-changing picture and learn how scientists use light to identify different atoms.
