Join in with our "Do the Locomotion" GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ official attempt!
Locomotion and S&DR200 Festival are inviting you to join an official attempt at their first ever GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title on Thursday 26 February at Locomotion for the greatest number of people simultaneously performing the “Locomotion” dance at a single venue.
The official guidelines stipulate that at least 1752 people must be dancing together for at least 5 minutes, so the museum is calling on you to join the fun and help them break the record.
Video guides to help learn the choreography are available to view online. No previous dance experience is required to take part, but participants are asked to familiarise themselves with the dance moves in advance to help the official attempt run smoothly.
To help you in learning the 'Locomotion' dance the museum are running in-person masterclass sessions, so do come along and run through the steps:

Things you need to know

On the day:
- Participants should arrive at Locomotion by 12.30
- Between 12.30–13.45: Participants to enter the world record attempt area please (no re-entry permitted)
- 13.00–14.00: Be inspired by singing performances by local artists, join in with a warm up and dance practice
- 14.00: The official record attempt will take place!
Dance within your own limits and have fun whilst doing the dance moves shown in the video. Consider any medical conditions you may have before deciding to take part. Please note that all participants will be taking part at their own risk.
We do expect it to be busy and car parking is limited, so please plan your journey in advance and make use of the public transport options to Shildon or car share where possible.
