About
Step straight out of the front door onto the Teesdale Way, one of the many rural footpaths crisscrossing this beautiful, largely undiscovered part of the country. Or take a short stroll into Barnard Castle to discover its rich heritage and enjoy the warm hospitality of its many cafes, bars, and restaurants.
THE SPACE
Riverview Cottage is part of an early 19th Century mill development on the banks of the mighty River Tees and the edge of Barnard Castle. While it retains much of the character and features of a bygone era, it is now a modern, cosy cottage kitted out with all the creature comforts for an easy, home-from-home holiday experience.
This delightful two-bed cottage sleeps up to four people and is the perfect location for exploring Barnard Castle, the Durham Dales (part of which incorporates an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and the many attractions of County Durham beyond. Or you can just rest and relax, soaking up and savouring the sights and sounds of the River Tees. It really is the perfect blend of town and country living.
Your private entrance opens onto a spacious kitchen with a central dining table and seating for four. It is fitted out with an impressive range of appliances, including an oven, hob with extractor fan, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine, along with the usual line-up of small appliances such as kettle and toaster.
The living area offers a lovely comfy space in which to enjoy some much-deserved downtime after your adventures out and about. The wood-burning stove provides a focal point for the two, double-seater sofas, and enhances the cosy cottage feel of the room, while the Smart TV and selection of DVDs, books and board games supply the entertainment. You’ll need your own log-in details to access your streaming services on the TV.
From here, it’s up the pine staircase to the bedroom and bathroom accommodation on the first floor. The first bedroom offers twin beds with matching bedside tables, a wardrobe, chest of drawers and dressing table while the master bedroom has a king-size bed, with matching bedside tables, a fitted wardrobe with hanging and shelf space and a dressing table. The common denominator of both bedrooms is the stunning view of the river Tees from the shuttered windows; you could while away a whole day on the built-in window seats!
The contemporary bathroom has a modern walk-in shower, a roll-top bath and an ornate radiator. A WC and wash hand basin complete the furnishings.
You have exclusive use of a small patio and two chairs to the front of the cottage, from where you can relax and watch the gurgling river flow by. Access is via the gate in the railings near the front door.
GUEST ACCESS
You have full and exclusive access to the entire cottage.
Riverview Cottage is the third in a small row of cottages on the left-hand side and is accessed through the Demesnes, an open parkland area at the end of Gray Lane. Approaching the Demesnes along Gray Lane, you will see the entrance to the park/Demesnes. Drive through the opening and along the track until you reach the cottages.
As you emerge from the wooded section of the track, there is an area of private parking just before you reach the cottages on the left. This parking area is exclusive to Riverview Cottage and Riverside Cottage next door. One space is allocated to Riverview Cottage but if, for any reason these spaces are unavailable, there is a further private parking space on the left-hand side just before you emerge from the wooded section of the track. Please take care when parking and do not block the track.
The front door to Riverview Cottage is just beyond the railings to the front of the cottages.
Remote check-in gives you flexibility on arrival time and complimentary tea and coffee will help you ease into your stay. Other items in the welcome pack include hotel standard hand soap, shampoo and body wash, as well as a washing-up pack, toilet roll, and kitchen roll. There should be enough of the latter to last you a couple of days, but should you need more, there are supermarkets in the town.
CHILDREN AND INFANTS
While children and little ones of all ages are very welcome at Riverview Cottage, please bear in mind that this is entirely at the parents’ discretion given the proximity of the cottage to the river and the fact that it does not have stairgates, a highchair or a travel cot. A moveable fire guard is available on request but please message us beforehand so we can install it before your arrival.
CHECK-IN/OUT TIMES
Check-in time is after 3pm and check-out time is 10am. Early check-in or late check-out can be arranged but only by prior agreement and at an additional charge of £50 for each to allow for the disruption to our cleaning/linen schedule.
KEYS
There are two keys altogether: one for the front door and one for the lock at the security bollards at the entrance to the Demesnes and the track to the cottage.
Please look after the keys; a fee of £100 will be charged if you lose them and a £50 call-out fee will be charged if you lock yourselves out of the property.
INVENTORY
Please take all reasonable and proper care of the property and its contents, leaving them in the same condition as you found them. Within reason, you will be liable for the costs of replacement, repair or extra cleaning as a direct result of any breakages or damages you cause during your stay.
