About

Relax & unwind in our original 1950’s railway wagons which have been fully-refurbished and transformed into unique self-contained accommodation, each with a wooden-decked patio area with stunning countryside views. Featured in the TV series “Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes” our wagons are well-equipped for a comfortable and relaxing stay in the picturesque Durham Dales. Our dog-friendly site features developing woodland and wetlands with an ever-increasing variety of wildlife, providing an idyllic setting for a relaxing break. Guests will also have access to our animal paddocks and aviary for the duration of their stay (subject to weather conditions and seasonal variations).

Location and local amenities.

Our family-run business is located just off the A68 at Toft Hill, near Bishop Auckland in the beautiful Durham Dales. We are just a few miles from Hamsterley Forest with it's multitude of hiking and mountain-biking trails, Escomb Saxon church and Bishop Auckland which features the Bishop's Palace, Auckland Project, art galleries & mining galleries and the unmissable summer spectacular show "Kynren". Tindale Crescent Retail Park (4 minutes drive away) features numerous well known "high street" shops, supermarkets and fast-food takeaways & coffee shops.  Also within easy driving distance are Locomotion: National Railway Museum, historic Raby Castle, High Force & Low Force waterfalls, Weardale Railway and numerous picturesque dales villages with charming country pubs and the market town of Barnard Castle.

On-site we have our own Curlew Cafe & licensed bar (opening times subject to seasonal variations), which hosts seasonal events and regular fun events such as bingo, quizzes and music nights featuring local musicians. We also have the delightful animal paddocks (with llamas, alpacas, donkeys and much more) and an aviary, a childrens playground plus a dog walking area around our developing woodland and wildlife ponds. Please visit our website at www.highfarmholidaypark.uk for more information & guest reviews.

Accommodation Highlights

Our Railway Wagon accommodation units are situated to afford our guests beautiful views of the local countryside from their decked patio area. Perfect for couples they each feature a double bed, en-suite shower, toilet and basin and a kitchenette with fridge, oven, hob and whistling kettle. Towels, bed-linen and cooking utensils are all provided for upir comfort, with our on-site cafe and bar offering you the opportunity to really "get away from it all" and leave the chores at home! Enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature and explore our wildlife ponds area and developing woodland trails.

Food & Drink

Our site features the Curlew Cafe offering hearty breakfasts & snacks, daily specials, delicious homemade cakes & bakes and our popular Sunday lunches. You can even pre-book afternoon tea for an extra-special treat or to meet up with family & friends. The licensed bar, open during busy periods at weekends (seasonal variations apply) and for special events & music nights, serves cocktails, mocktails, local beers and bar food/snacks. If you can tear yourself away from our homemade treats there are several local pubs and restaurants in the nearby towns and villages within 15 minutes driving time.

Further Afield things to See & Do

In addition to the numerous local attractions & places of interest mentioned above our site is well situated for visits to historic Durham City and the fascinating, ever-popular Beamish Museum of living history where you can "travel back through time" experiencing our local history & traditions. There are several local cinemas and theatres such as the Darlington Hippodrome, The Witham and Durham Gala Theatre. Also, less than an hour's drive away are Adventure Valley, Killhope Lead Mining Museum and Newcastle and Gateshead, featuring the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, The Glasshouse International Centre for Music (formerly The Sage) many other galleries plus the Metro Centre, a huge indoor shopping and entertainment mall.
