Word Fest 2026 is a community-led celebration of storytelling, creativity and local identity, taking place across Bishop Auckland from 7-20 September 2026. Created by Dispel Art, the festival brings together residents, schools, artists, authors, illustrators, businesses and community groups through a vibrant programme of workshops, talks, performances and creative activities. The festival will feature artist, illustrator and author-led events, alongside opportunities for people of all ages to explore the stories, heritage and character of Bishop Auckland. Visitors can enjoy a special Word Fest exhibition at The Artists Hub, celebrating the power of words, imagination and place, as well as community celebration events that showcase local voices and shared experiences. Word Fest is an invitation to discover new stories, make connections and contribute to the continuing story of the town. Word Fest is proudly funded by Bishop Auckland Town Council, whose support has made this community celebration possible.
