Edmundbyers
Derwent Waterside Park offers fishing in beautiful surroundings for fly and bait anglers. The fishery enjoys lots of open space and is well stocked from its own fish farm.

Horden Grasslands is a Local Nature Reserve and is UK Woodland Assurance Scheme certified, within Durham Heritage Coast. Habitats include grassland, scrub and woodland. The one-mile linear route takes you next to the grassland and the clifftops.

Near Castleside, Consett
Link up the Loops - Consett to Chester-le-Street Cycle Route is a 25 mile challenging cycle route mostly off-road. It is marked on the Durham County Council North Durham Cycle Map as CDN5.
Beach
Seaham
Seaham Beach is a pleasant stretch of rocky and sandy beach, with rocks pools a plenty. The dog-friendly beach stretches for approx. one mile along the town’s coastline, from the harbour wall to the north of the town.

Bishop Auckland
This Walk is a medium grade 4 1/2 miles (7 1/4 km) through peaceful countryside and woodland, including Auckland Castle and Binchester Roman Fort. This should take 2 – 2 1/2 hours.

Rainton Meadows was created by the restoration of the Rye Hill Opencast coal mine in 1996 by UK Coal in partnership with Durham Wildlife Trust and the City of Sunderland.

Located just to the south of the historic city of Durham this picturesque walk encircles two huge loops of the River Wear. The section of the route just past Shincliffe Hall follows paths that were extensively lobbied for by the Ramblers.
