Horden Grasslands is a Local Nature Reserve and is UK Woodland Assurance Scheme certified, within Durham Heritage Coast. Habitats include grassland, scrub and woodland. The one-mile linear route takes you next to the grassland and the clifftops.

Bishop Auckland
This Walk is a medium grade 4 1/2 miles (7 1/4 km) through peaceful countryside and woodland, including Auckland Castle and Binchester Roman Fort. This should take 2 – 2 1/2 hours.

Three short walks around Stanhope with an option to walk to Frosterley along a quiet road beside the River Wear. They are well waymarked and easy underfoot.

Barnard Castle
A walk through woods and fields, with a steep climb to the path high above the river and final descent through the trees back to the river. There are pleasant, pretty views, whatever the season, particularly of the castle.

Located just to the south of the historic city of Durham this picturesque walk encircles two huge loops of the River Wear. The section of the route just past Shincliffe Hall follows paths that were extensively lobbied for by the Ramblers.

Near Seaham
The Coastal Footpath passes close by the site of Dawdon Colliery which ceased production in 1991 after which the site was reclaimed. Dawdon was linked underground to the Vane Tempest Colliery in Seaham.
