If you've been watching ITV's newest drama Victoria, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for Raby Castle in the Durham Dales, which will feature later in the first series.
Filming took place at Raby earlier in 2016, with the historic castle's gardens used to illustrate Buckingham Palace's beautiful gardens, while the impressive dining room, entrance hall and corridor will feature in the indoor scenes in episode seven.
The dramatic castle, in Teesdale is one of England's finest medieval castles and provides a unique insight into life throughout the ages. It's also surrounded by 200 acres of parkland, where herds of deer live wild. With five acres of 18th Century Walled Gardens to explore too, it's little wonder this beautuful setting has been likened to those of the famous palace.
Starring Jenna Coleman, the new costume drama follows the early life of Queen Victoria, and this is not the first time the Castle has been seen on screen - you may remember seeing the castle way back in 1998 film Elizabeth, starring Cate Blanchett.
Victoria joins an ever growing list of TV programmes (and films) that have been filmed in Durham. Here we take a look back at some of the most popular, but take a look at our top 10 page for more.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Durham Cathedral's cloister doubles as an exterior shot for the Hogwarts School and against a snowy backdrop, Harry stands in one corner of the Cathedral cloister and releases his pet Owl, Hedwig. The Cathedral was also used in the Chamber of Secrets (2002) when the cloister provided the setting for Ron Weasley’s spectacular slug vomiting, and Professor McGonagall taught the other wizards how to turn animals into water goblets in the Chapter House.
Downton Abbey
Beamish Museum featured in the last ever episode of Downton Abbey on Christmas Day 2015. The award-winning living museum's Town street was covered in “snow” in July last year, when filming took place with Lady Mary Crawley (played by Michelle Dockery), Tom Branson (Allen Leech) and Henry Talbot (Matthew Goode).
Alien 3
It's hard to believe it's now 24 years since Alien 3 hit the big screen, and it's almost as hard to believe that Blast Beach on the Durham Heritage Coast was used to represent the surface of an alien planet. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for its stunning visual effects, and since the making of the movie the Durham Heritage Coast has won several awards for its own visual effects at Seaham and Blackhall Rocks and right along this beautiful stretch of coastline.
