Durham Towns

Barnard Castle in Durham

Durham’s towns and villages each have their own unique character and charm. Barnard Castle in the Durham Dales is a must-see historic market town, home to The Bowes Museum and an array of antique shops. The Durham Dales is also home to Stanhope, a hub for outdoor activities. Hop aboard the Weardale Railway which was originally built in 1847 to transport limestone, but now transports visitors on scenic trips through the stunning countryside. Bishop Auckland in the Vale of Durham has a fascinating 2,000 year heritage and is where you will find Auckland Castle, the country residence of the Prince Bishops for centuries. On the Durham Heritage Coast you will find Seaham, a lively harbour town with a fantastic ice-cream parlour. And in Chester-le-Street in the Vale of Durham you will find the Emirates Durham International Cricket Ground.
