ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour 6 - 8 April

Ahead of the Cricket World Cup matches at the Riverside Ground in this summer, cricket fans will have the chance to see the World Cup Trophy up close at some of the county’s most iconic landmarks and attractions. 

Saturday 6 April at Raby Castle. 

Sunday 7 April the Trophy will be in Durham City, it will travel along the River Wear stopping off at Durham Market Place before making its way to Durham Cathedral.

Monday 8 April the trophy will spend the morning at Beamish Museum before ending the day at the Riverside Ground, Chester le Street. 

Norman Cornish - A Slice of Life 6 April - 13 October 

The mining community that provided a lifetime of inspiration for artist Norman Cornish, will sit at the heart of a special exhibition commemorating his centenary year, at the Mining Art Gallery in Bishop Auckland

Spring events in Durham

The Great North Festival of Transport 11 - 28 April

Join Beamish, the Living Museum of the North for two weekends of historic transport action. It'll be full steam ahead with four fascinating days of all things steam, with vechicles in action around the museum at the annual Great North Steam Fair 11 to 14 April.

On the last weekend in April 27-28 gallop, canter and trot your way around the museum at Horses at Work - showcasing the most impressive horses and horse-drawn vechicles ever seen at Beamish. 

Bishop Auckland Food Festival 13 - 14 April

BAFF returns to Durham this spring, with over 150 artisan and street food traders, live cookery theatre, beer tasting, celebrity chefs, gin school, live music, kids cookery classes, book signings and more! 

Durham Adventure Festival and Tour Series

Durham Adventure Festival 26 - 28 April

#DAF2019 returns to the Gala Theatre with a three day festival celebrating all things adventure and wilderness. From Olympic quests and unprecedented rescue missions, Durham Adventure Festival offers an impressive line-up of speakers, sharing stories of their extraordinary and exhilarating real-life adventures. 

OVO Energy Tour Series Cycling 18 May

A firm favourite with cycling fans, supporters will be able to cheer on Britain's fastest teams as they tackle this fearsome Durham City circuit. With its cobbled streets and a daunting 500m climb up South Street, Durham City is regarded as one of the most challenging rounds of the competition. 

Locomotion and Durham Pride

Locomotion: Festival of Steam 4 - 6 May

Experience the awe-inspiring power of steam at the annual Festival of Steam at Locomotion: the National Railway Museum at Shildon, with world famous steam engines, steam rides, intriguing exhibitions and much more. 

Durham Pride 25 - 26 May

Founded in 2014, Durham Pride is one of the biggest and liveliest pride events in the North East, and promises to be even bigger in 2019. Join in the family friendly celebrations in Durham City with live music, entertainment, fairground rides, sports zone and of course the annual Pride parade. 

Durham Regatta and Seaham Food Festival

Durham Regatta 8 - 9 June

The 186th Durham Regatta returns to the mighty River Wear for a spectacular weekend of exciting racing and free river side entertainment - live music, stalls to browse and delicious food & drink. 

Seaham Food Festival 8 - 9 June 

Set in the lively harbour town of Seaham, on the Durham Heritage Coast the new festival will bring a host of culinary delights, top chefs, fabulous traders and producers and tasty demonstrations to get your taste buds tingling.
