About
School holidays again? Try something new at Locomotion!
As we gear up for the opening of New Hall on Friday 24 May, one theme keeps popping up - take a new look.
So if you've not visited for a while or had so much fun on a recent visit you fancy coming back for more, there'll be lots to see and do this May half term.
WHAT'S NEW?
New Hall is new! So new its name is full of newness. It's not just good because it's new, though—there are 47 superb railway vehicles in there and some lovely links to our home in Shildon, the world's first railway town.
Another new thing to see is Gaunless Bridge. It might look shiny and new thanks to some restoration and conservation work, but it's actually 201 years old.
We've got a few other new things just for half term, too:
Free make and take activities (all week)
Hands-on drawing workshop with award-winning artist Lizzie Lovejoy (Tuesday 28 May only)
Get drawing and sketching with Dan Walls from Illumination Wall Art (29–31 May only)
Enjoy an authentic steam train ride hauled by our replica Stephenson's Rocket (1 and 2 June only, see train rides page for more info)
Museum admission is free, a charge applies for train rides (£4pp, under-5s free).
