Housed in a refurbished 19th century almshouse, Durham's World Heritage Site Visitor Centre, a free facility open seven days a week, provides visitors with an overview of the World Heritage Site and what there is to see and do in Durham City. This Visitor Information Point offers an array of leaflets and information. Internet access for official tourism websites is also available to visitors.

Staff are available to provide basic advice and information about Durham City and its heritage. More complex requests for assistance with things like accommodation and transport or enquiries for further afield will be directed to the Visitor Contact Centre.
