The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is the second largest of the 41 AONB's across England and Wales and is one the most lovely and unspoilt parts of England. It is a special place and has much to offer from high wild moorland to picturesque stone villages nestling in valley bottoms.
AONBs are recognised as the equal of our National Parks and were established with the purpose of conserving and enhancing natural beauty so you'll be sure of finding some spectacular landscapes with plenty of opportunities for wildlife-watching. The North Pennines AONB is also a "European Geopark", a UNESCO backed designation awarded to areas with world-class geology.
So welcome to the North Pennines, a place where you can stretch your legs, spread your wings and explore the wild miles of one of the finest landscapes in England. This landscape has inspired many of Britain's most famous artists, writers and people of ideas for centuries. Come and let it inspire you.
