River Cottage

A 4 Star, Gold Award Cottage River Cottage is situated on a peaceful meander of the River Tees in a quiet cul-de-sac in the village of Gainford. With private access to the river, it allows undisturbed opportunities for fishing and spectacular views of the church, woodland and local wildlife – such as herons, otters and kingfishers.

The cottage contains four bedrooms, a wet room, en suite bathroom and an additional toilet, one utility room and an open plan living area, which is composed of a lounge, kitchen, hallway and conservatory. All staged on one level, accessibility is perfect for wheelchair users. All four bedrooms are uniquely decorated – each with their own feature wall and coordinating duvets. This comprises one twin bedroom and two double bedrooms, one of which is en suite and another of which can sleep an additional person. All are fitted with superior memory-foam mattresses and bespoke oak furniture.

Dining in River Cottage is extremely flexible, as meals can be enjoyed along the kitchen breakfast bar, around the dining table in the south-facing conservatory or by the river when the summer weather calls to be enjoyed. Catering need not be a lonely task either, as the kitchen constitutes part of the open plan living area – equipped with a double oven, grill, microwave, dishwasher and ample fridge and freezer space. Alternatively, visitors can make use of the alfresco barbecue area or the pubs and restaurants in Gainford and neighbouring villages.

The spacious, open plan lounge contains a widescreen LED television with a sound system for a fantastic home entertainment package. The LoveFilm, iplayer and smart TV network also allows users to browse thousands of films, and documentaries. Free wifi with network sockets is also available in all rooms.
Both bathrooms are fitted with soothing hydrotherapy baths, showers and chromotherapy lighting, which can change colour to create a more relaxing ambience.

The accommodation benefits from off-street parking for at least two cars with a secure cycle shed.

River Cottage is ideally situated for walking or cycling in Teesdale and the Yorkshire Dales – and no further than an hour away from the coast, the Lake District and the historic city of Durham. In addition, the town of Barnard Castle, home to the Bowes Museum, is just up the road and the Shildon Railway Museum is about 20 minutes away. The village of Gainford offers two pubs, a post office, a hairdressers, coffee shop, corner chop and butchers. There is also a direct bus service to Barnard Castle and Darlington which connects to the East Coast mainline.
