Steam Shuttles York to Shildon!

Steam and diesel shuttles will be running between Locomotion, the National Railway Museum at Shildon and the National Railway Museum in York on September 24 and 25.

Passengers will be able to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of operating steam and diesel engines, while they travel along the East Coast Main Line and the Bishop Line.

The locomotives hauling the shuttle trains will be drawn from a pool consisting of the Royal Class 47 Prince William, No. 70013 Oliver Cromwell, No. 30777 Sir Lamiel or No.5972 Olton Hall.

Tickets for the full return journey from either site cost £30.00 for adults and £10 for children and can be purchased direct from the Railway Touring Company website http://www.railwaytouring.net/uk-day-trips/national-railway-museum-shuttles. Those wanting to ride the shuttles are encouraged to book in advance to avoid disappointment. Further information can be found on the National Railway Museum’s webpage www.nrm.org.uk/shuttle. Prices, operating times and locomotives are subject to change.

On 24 and 25 September, Locomotion, Shildon will also host its 7^th Annual Steam Gala with steam rides on Furness Number 20 and 0-6-0 Saddletank Sir Berkeley, trade stands by heritage associations and cab access to locomotives in light steam. There will also be guest locomotives on site check www.nrm.org.uk/locomotion for updates.

The National Railway Museum in York will host its two day LMS Steam Weekend, welcoming a number of visiting LMS locomotives operating steam rides in South Yard, trade stands from LMS associations and cab access to a number of engines in light steam. Confirmed attendees so far include LMS Princess Royal Class No.6201 Princess Elizabeth, LMS Fairburn 2-6-4T No. 42085, LMS No.45305 Black 5, LMS Royal Scot Class Scots Guardsman and LMS No.48151 8F.

Admission to Locomotion, the National Railway Museum at Shildon and the National Railway Museum in York is free.
