20th June 2011

Categories: Visitor News

The annual Toy & Train Collectors’ Fair returns to Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon on Saturday July 2 & Sunday July 3, 2011.

At this popular event, you’ll find more than 100 trade tables, with traders from all over the country offering everything you need to enjoy your modelling hobby. Whether you are looking for that long sought-after piece to complete your collection, or the everyday essential, you’re sure to find it!

In addition, the event will feature a range of model railway layouts on show, in various gauges – including ‘OO’, ‘O’ and ‘N’ gauge. And – for a small additional charge - steam train rides will be available on the museum’s 1km track, with the service hauled by the Vintage Carriages Trust’s 0-6-0 saddletank locomotive Sir Berkeley.

The Toy & Train Collectors’ Fair takes place inside the Collection Building, with the museum’s impressive display of heritage vehicles providing a dramatic backdrop – including LNER class A4 4468 Mallard, which holds the world speed record for steam traction by rail. The event will be a great day out for all the family – with Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon also offering a children’s play area, picnic areas and more.

Guest locomotive former GWR Hall Class steam locomotive no. 5972 Olton Hall – better known as Hogwarts Castle, the locomotive which hauls the Hogwarts Express – will be on display outside the Collection Building, and visitors will be able to access the cab throughout the weekend.
