Kynren - An epic tale of England

Throughout the summer of 2019 audiences who visited Kynren in the Vale of Durham were amazed as legends come to life before their very eyes, in a thrilling tale told on an epic scale - 2,000 years in the making.

The multi-award-winning live action outdoor theatre spectacular is set in the grounds of Auckland Castle, Bishop Auckland, and takes guests on a spellbinding voyage through history - through the eyes of Arthur, the son of a mining family.

Guests were treated to a new pre-show visitor experience at the Viking Village. Where they could experience the more peaceful side of Viking life, visited the cookhouse complete with its own vegetable patch and woodworker’s cottage built into the hillside.

Visitors could take a stroll along the stream and watch the past come to life at the working blacksmith’s forge, where real chainmail was being made. Plus no visit was complete without saying hello to the animal inhabitants, including Highland cattle and the curly haired Wensleydale sheep.
