Chitra Ganesh - Journey to the Great Below at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art

Baltic presents Journey to the Great Below, the first major UK solo exhibition by acclaimed artist Chitra Ganesh at a public institution. On display until 17 January 2027, the exhibition features a new animation, newly commissioned sculptural works, and a site-specific wall drawing, alongside a selection of recent paintings, prints, works on paper, and mixed-media works.

7th Century Saxon pilgrimage at Bamburgh Castle

What did a 7th Century Saxon pilgrimage look like? Well, the Acle Reenactment Society are bringing their camp to Bamburgh Castle to mark the 1375th anniversary of the death of Northumbrian saint, Aidan. You can learn about beekeeping from 7th Century monks, try on 7th Century Saxon clothing and talk to the warriors and play with shields and swords in the arena at Bamburgh Castle from 29 to 31 August.

Hexham Abbey Conservation Volunteers new exhibition marks the 110th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme and sharing the First World War stories of local families, until September 20. What first began as an appeal for local people to share family letters, diaries, medals, photographs and memories has uncovered a remarkable collection of stories, most never previously shared publicly.
