Great Yorkshire Show and Durham Miners’ Gala Competition 2025

To celebrate This is Durham attending the Great Yorkshire Show and Durham Miners’ Gala we are offering show visitors an exclusive opportunity to win a summer staycation in Durham.

Relax and unwind with an overnight stay for two at Lumley Castle Hotel, a luxury four-star hotel located in beautiful parkland overlooking the River Wear. The castle is a magnificent monument to a bygone age of chivalry and honour, combining old and new to create a unique place to stay.

The castle, which became a hotel in 1976, dates back to the 14th century, when it was converted from a manor house by Sir Ralph Lumley. It is still owned by Sir Ralph’s descendants, with the 13th Earl of Scarbrough involved in its running day to day. The 71 beautifully appointed bedrooms within the castle’s walls are individually styled, with traditional furnishings and views over rolling parkland
