Summer’s Sorted at Ushaw. It’s time to relax, summer is sorted here at Ushaw as we have a host of affordable wonder-filled events to make your summer the best it can be.
Traintastic Weekend | Saturday 23rd – Sunday 24th July, 11am – 4pm (Drop-in)
All aboard as we kick off the start of the summer holidays with a ‘traintastic’ weekend at Ushaw. We’ll be joined by Go Loco Miniature Railway, where you can delight your young ones with a ride along the former lake. Alongside this, Children can get hands-on in our Train Toy Takeover as we’ll have a model railway, costumes, cars and road mats laid out! If that wasn’t enough join us for Train Storytelling, Train Making Crafts.

Train Toy Takeover | Mondays, Tuesdays & Fridays during Summer Holidays, 11am – 4pm (Drop-in)
Our Francis Thompson Room will be home to Train Toy Takeovers throughout Summer. We’ll have with heaps of track and trains for your young engineers to construct and play to their hearts content.

Take a Stitch to Ushaw | Every Friday from 29th July – 2nd September, 2pm – 3:30pm
Pick up your threads and take a stitch to Ushaw this summer. Join members of a local independent stitching group, currently displaying their work at Ushaw. Learn all the basics of hand stitching. Create your own fabric cupcakes or doughnuts, have a go at crazy patchwork, or stitch your own masterpiece to display on a card or keyring. All materials and tuition provided and this activity is included with our Day or Annual Pass. Suitable for children 7 years and older.
USHARR PIRATES! | Sunday 7th August , 11am – 2:45pm
Bring the whole family for an entertaining show in the Francis Thomson Room including an interactive story, songs, funky dancing, games & lots of fun! Followed by an interactive treasure hunt in the beautiful Gardens led by a team of colourful characters. All aboard me hearties! Perfect for ages 0 – 11 years.
Animals About Town | Tuesday 9th, 16th & 23rd August, 11am – 3pm
On Tuesday, 9th, 16th and 23rd August meet, interact and learn about a selection of friendly farm animals as Animals About Town makes a return to Ushaw.

Gosling Raptors bring their marvelous owls along, get a close up look at real owls.

Explore and Draw at Ushaw | Every Saturday from 23rd July – 27th August, 9:30am – 10:30am
Saturdays are for creativity inspired by a beautiful setting. Artist Betty Brown will lead you to inspirational parts of Ushaw and guide you to progress your drawing skills whether you are just starting out or experienced.
Confidence Building Workshop with Activate Theatre | Thursday 25th & Friday 26th August, 10:30am – 1pm & 1:30pm – 3:30pm
Lift your head up high! Activate Theatre are our resident theatre company and have planned fun activities to boost young people’s confidence.
Below we highlight what activities you can do daily whilst visiting us during the Summer Holidays. There’s something always on! Open 11am-4pm daily.
– Outdoor Games and Activities – Our games carts have been bolstered with Football goals, Hula Hooping, Badminton, Space Hoppers and more
– Interactive Digital Trail – Can you find the hidden treasure in our Gardens? App launching SOON! Keep an eye on our social media feeds for updates.
– Pirates Treasure Hunt / Room On The Broom – We’ll have two outdoor Trails which you can explore in our Gardens, can you complete them?
