Add Dark Sky Astronomy and Stargazing - Grassholme Observatory to your Itinerary

About

Tonight's event promises to be a spectacular evening of astronomy.

On arrival, your health and safety is our primary concern, and we have a comprehensive system in place to ensure that you have a wonderful, and safe, time with us. We have also specifically reduced attendee numbers, to assist us in our efforts to keep you safe.

The event will begin with a personal welcome from our astronomer, Gary Fildes. Gary is a very experienced science communicator and astronomer, and founder of the Kielder Observatory, where he was Director and CEO for over 11 years.

After the welcome, Gary and the team will escort you into our new state of the art classroom, which has a cosy feel, and high definition (HD) projection system. Gary will take you on a whistle stop tour of the Universe. Following this, we will split into groups and, weather depending, start observing the sky, with our array of telescopes and cameras.

With no Moon in the sky, we will look out for the stunning Milky Way, which is high overhead, and the planets Saturn, Mars and Jupiter, then use our robotic telescope to scour the skies for jewels of the cosmos, for us to ponder.

Then it's back into the classroom for a hot drink, more astronomy photography questions, and boundless knowledge and inspiration.

We've planned quite a night!

You should bring appropriate clothing to keep you warm and arrive at Grassholme no later than 15 minutes before the start of your session. You should not do anything to disturb or destroy the visitor experience for other attendees and failure to do so may mean that you are politely asked to leave site. By booking this event you are signing up to these terms and conditions.

Get wrapped up - it can get chilly when we are outside!

This is a pet free event, so please don't bring any furry friends!
