Traveling by Air
Teesside International Airport and Newcastle International Airport provide convenient air access to the region. Both airports offer regular flights from Amsterdam and other major European hubs, with onward connections to destinations across the UK and Europe. These airports offer easy onward travel into Tees Valley and Durham by train, car or taxi, with journey times typically under an hour from landing.
Travelling by Sea
For visitors travelling by ferry, regular services from the Netherlands arrive at the Port of Tyne in North Shields and Hull. These ports are well connected to the national road and rail network, providing straightforward onward travel for foot passengers and those travelling with vehicles.
By Road
Tees Valley and Durham are well connected to the UK’s motorway and trunk road network. The region lies close to the A1(M) and is easily accessible via the A19, A66 and M6. Journeys from Scotland or from London and the south of England are direct and uncomplicated, with clear routes and well-maintained roads throughout.
By Train
Rail travel is one of the fastest and most sustainable ways to reach the region. Durham is located on the East Coast Main Line and can be reached from London in under three hours and under 2 hours from Edinburgh. Tees Valley is just over two hours from London, with regular national services connecting the area to major cities across the UK, including Edinburgh, York, Manchester and Leeds. Local rail services also make it easy to travel around the region once you arrive.
