The 2012 Durham Regatta will take place over the weekend of the 9-10 June on the racecourse stretch of the River Wear in Durham City. One of the oldest rowing regattas in the country, pre-dating Henley, this will be the 179th Anniversary of the Regatta.
This year it will feature a parade from Palace Green at 12.30pm on Saturday. Follow competitors as they form a guard of honour for a ‘racing eight’ boat using their oars. The boat will be carried down to the river to mark the start of the Founders’ Challenge Races including the Northern Universities’ Boat Race between Newcastle and Durham.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Regatta.
Racing will commence around 8.30am on both days, with a race every two minutes until around 6.30pm.
The activities are not restricted to the water; various trade stands, food stalls and other activities for both adults and children will take place, including a ‘Row for Gold’ challenge.
