North Pennines AONB Events
The North Pennines is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and truly one of England's special places.
Incorporating much of the Durham Dales, you can explore a stunning landscape of open heather moors, dramatic dales, tumbling upland rivers, wonderful woods, close-knit communities, glorious waterfalls, fantastic birds, colourful hay meadows, stone-built villages, and intriguing imprints of a mining and industrial past.
In recognition of its special qualities the area has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a UNESCO Global Geopark – highlighting its globally important Earth heritage.
There are some wonderful events taking place in the North Pennines in 2017 too, so whether you’re interested in the area’s geology, fancy a spot of stargazing, or simply want to get outdoors and spot rare plants and wildlife, there's always something going on. Plus there are a host of craft sessions, nature workshops and family-friendly events takign place at Bowlees Visitor Centre.
