Join Beamish in The Pit Village on the 30th April and 1st May for a host of May Day activities! The May Day King and Queen will be crowned as we celebrate this special event with parades, music, Maypole dancing and headdress making.
Make a May Day mask in The Pit Village school and join in the parade at 2.30pm.
The May Day King or Queen will be crowned just before the parade –which lucky visitors will claim the title?
Help decorate the May Day cart in The Pit Village. The cart will be pulled by one of our horses in the parade.
Have a go at Maypole dancing throughout the day in the pit pony field with musical accompaniment by Benny Graham.
Clog/rapper dancers will be performing and will join the parade.
Learn about traditional May Day activities up at Pockerley Old Hall.
