What could be better than a taste of Durham?
More than 40 Durham food and drink businesses have been praised for the quality of their food.
The restaurants, hotels, farm shops, café’s and bars have received TasteDurham awards for high quality service, quality of menu’s and support for local food producers in County Durham.
The businesses were assessed by national tourist board Visit Britain and compared against strict national criteria used to judge food and drink businesses nationally.
TasteDurham was set up in 2008 by Visit County Durham to signpost visitors to those eateries serving the best fresh, seasonal and local dishes and reward businesses who genuinely serve a taste of this region.
TasteDurham co-ordinator Lucy Wearne, said: “Visitors to Durham will now know where to find the very best local food and drink, knowing that its ingredients are fresh, seasonal and sourced by suppliers who are invested in North East England.”
The businesses were rated either Highest Quality Assured or Quality Assured and those who use fresh, local ingredients and support producers in North East England were given the accolade of Local Produce Champion.
Visitors can expect to sample creative Durham menu’s at TasteDurham restaurants, including Cotherstone Cheese and Spinach Souffle at Bistro 21 in Durham City, Beamish Trout Pate at The South Causey Inn and rack of Lartington Lamb at the Bridge Inn in Whorlton, Teesdale.
