Locomotion welcomes millionth visitor

Locomotion: the first National Railway Museum in the North East has celebrated welcoming the millionth visitor to its six hectare site situated in a unique eco-friendly building in Shildon, Durham. The enormous collection which houses up to 60 railway vehicles has smashed initial visitor targets set at 63,000, making it a decade ahead of anticipated visitor numbers.
Displays include Sans Pareil, the original engine which raced against Stephenson’s Rocket, alongside the magnificent LNER class A4 locomotive 4468 Mallard – the fastest steam locomotive in the world - which is currently on loan from National Railway Museum York. Other iconic vehicles such as LNER V2 class 4771 Green Arrow, British Rail's APT-E, and the prototype Deltic are included in this vast collection.
