Go Wild! at The Bowes Museum during half term with a fun packed programme of events planned for the Barnard Castle treasure house.
Zoolab wild animal demonstrations will offer an opportunity for children to learn about wild animals in an imaginative and interesting way on Tuesday 14th February, allowing youngsters to handle snakes, tarantulas, rats and cockroaches in a series of 30 minute sessions.
If handling creepy crawlies gives you the shivers, then join the Museum’s Education Officer Amy Longstaff to create some less startling alternatives. Amy will be making pompom wild animals, moving card critters and springy spiral snakes as well as offering conservation activities and a fun wild animal trail. Children must be accompanied by an adult (for whom normal admission applies) for the above sessions.
Amy continues to go wild on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th February as she continues the animal theme. She will show how to make wild animal masks, animal print bookmarks and monkey door hangers. Sessions take place from 10.30-12.00 or 1.00-2.30 each day, and the cost is £2.00 per child. They must be accompanied by an adult, for whom there is no charge for this event. Booking is required on 01833 690606.
Friday 17th is a quieter, though no less interesting day, as Amy and her colleague Pauline Hukin offer an opportunity to try dry point printing, pen and ink and wax resist drawing. They will relate these activities to the current display Study, Design and Create which is on show in the Museum’s Fashion & Textile Gallery. The workshops, which run from 10.30-noon or 1.00-2.30, cost £3.00 for children, who must be aged 6+ to participate. They must be accompanied by an adult, for whom there is no charge for this event. Booking required on 01833 690606.
The Museum now offers a 6 month Admission Pass, giving a cost effective opportunity to make the most of all this fabulous building has to offer.
Incredible value for money at only £12.00, the pass enables the buyer to make unlimited return visits to the Museum within that 6 month timeframe. Passes are available to purchase on the Museum’s website, or alternatively purchase on the day of your visit.
