A series of new visitor maps have been launched to showcase market and coastal towns in Durham.
The maps for Seaham, Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland and Stanhope are now available to visitors in tourist information centres, hotels, restaurants, visitor attractions and retail outlets across Durham.
They detail what to see and do, where to shop and eat and carry a detailed town map and information about the history and heritage of each town.
Seaham is a lively harbour town on Durham’s award winning Heritage Coast (UK Landscape of the Year 2010) and is home to the start of an 11-mile coastal footpath, five star Seaham Hall Hotel and The Serenity Spa and St Mary The Virgin Church which dates back to the 7th century Anglo Saxon period.
Barnard Castle is an historic European market town in the Durham Dales and home to The Bowes Museum and its collections of fine European and decorative art, the upmarket retailers of the town’s “Bank” area and Barnard Castle which dates back to circa 14th century.
Further west, Stanhope is a tranquil Durham Dales market town and a great base for a walking or outdoor activity break, while Bishop Auckland is home to Binchester Roman Fort, Escomb Saxon Church and Auckland Castle – the former home of the Bishop of Durham.
