With its amazing history and wonderful collections, The Bowes Museum is one of the most important museums outside London.
While the French style château, purpose built by businessman John Bowes and his French actress wife José;phine, has been delighting visitors since 1892, a recent £12m revamp has transformed it into a must see 21stC attraction.
Today the Museum contains the greatest collection of fine and decorative arts in the North East, contained in stunning new galleries including the Silver & Metals Gallery, the Fashion and Textile Gallery and the English Interiors Gallery.
There is fine dining in the acclaimed Café; Bowes, plus quality gifts and souvenirs in the shop. The beautiful grounds include a parterre garden, fountain and woodland walks.
