Wharnley Burn is a 14thC farmhouse situated on the A68 near Castleside in the beautiful Derwent Valley, on the border of County Durham and Northumberland. We are an ideal touring centre for historic Durham, Corbridge, Hexham, Newcastle and Gateshead, as well as many interesting villages.

The area abounds in beautiful walks in the North Pennines and Weardale, bird watching, fishing and sailing at Derwent Reservoir, the C2C cycle route, Gateshead's MetroCentre, Great North Run and Baltic Arts Centre and Millennium Bridge, Beamish Museum, Cricket at Chester-le-Street and many others are all within easy travelling distance.

Our old farmhouse has great charm and allows you to step back in time to the days of low-beamed ceilings, panelled walls, log fires and very low doorways. We do have central heating and wood burning stoves.

There is history attached to the house dating back to the 16thC when highwaymen and cattle rustlers roamed our roads. We keep ponies, goats, geese, ducks, chickens, cats and dogs on our small holdings. A warm welcome awaits you in our quiet and relaxing old farmhouse with country cottage garden.
