Kirkstone is a tastefully converted chapel in the heart of Teesdale. Its features include a ground floor bedroom with en suite shower, toilet and sink and a garden room to relax and have breakfast in. Outside there are lawned gardens and flower borders with seats for guests' use.
Kirkstone overlooks the Stang Forest and Arkengarthdale, just 1 mile from the small market town of Barnard Castle. Known as Barney to the locals, the town has interesting shops including several selling antiques, as well as The Bowes Museum, a very grand building famous for its silver swan and with close ties to the late Queen Mother.
Eight miles from the town is High Force, England’s largest waterfall. Six miles away is Raby Castle, one of the country’s finest, with a large deer park and gardens. There are several reservoirs in the area including Cow Green and most have day fishing (requiring permit/licence).
Way marked walks are in abundance all over the area with several quaint old-fashioned pubs offering good quality food after a thirsty stroll. Further afield the Lake District is only 1 hour’s drive away and for a touch of retail therapy try the MetroCentre, Europe's largest retail complex, only 50 minutes along the A1(M).
