Hownsgill Bunkhouse is situated on the Lydgetts Junction, which is an ideal location from which to explore NCN routes 7 and 14.

For those wishing to make more than an overnight stay, the bunkhouse is an ideal base from which to access a wide range of activities and facilities in the surrounding area - golf, fishing, Beamish Museum, shopping in Newcastle, historic Durham, Hexham and the MetroCentre to name but a few. Consett town centre is approximately 1 mile away and offers a choice of supermarkets, take-aways, fast food outlets and night clubs. There is also a good range of friendly country pubs in the area, many of which also offer a decent menu for meals.
