This circular walk has views of the River Tees, and the possibility of seeing deer and other wildlife.

This route is 2 3/4 miles (4 1/2 km) that is fairly easy and should only take 1 hour. It passes close to Auckland Castle and Binchester Roman Fort.

South of Horden
Castle Eden Dene is one of the most important natural areas in the North East. The Dene is a four mile long steep sided valley cut into the Magnesian Limestone. This area is a National Nature Reserve, valued amongst other things for its yew trees.

A 9.7 mile route from Lydgett's Junction in Consett to Parkhead, Stanhope running past Rowley, Smiddy Shaw Reservoir and Waskerley Reservoir.

This route is set in the attractive countryside of Teesdale, within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The path starts just outside Middleton-in-Teesdale, passing the picturesque villages of Mickleton and Romaldkirk.

This walk takes us through Dalton-le Dale towards Dawdon with the option of visiting Noses’ Point and links to Durham’s Coastal Footpath. This walk is truly a journey through time from early Saxon settlements to industrial developments.

The Coastal Footpath passes close by the site of Dawdon Colliery which ceased production in 1991 after which the site was reclaimed. Dawdon was linked underground to the Vane Tempest Colliery in Seaham.
